A Rare Omega 6B/159 in Superb Condition with Black Dial, Military Caseback Engravings (A.M. 6B/159 1039/56) and Attractive Lume. In 1956, a large number of surplus 6B/159 pilot watches originating from WW2 were modified and re-issued to the RAF by the Ministry of Defence (MoD).In 1940, OMEGA was commissioned as the single largest supplier of watches for the British . The vast majority (>90%) of "military" omega watches on eBay and similar sales sources have NO military link whatsoever - these watches are at best parts watches but several are outright fakes. 2 Military issue wristwatch made for the Air Ministry, and retailed by the Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Co.Ltd. These watches were ordered from Omega in London and 2000 watches equipped with rotating bezels were ordered and were intended for Royal Air Force crews. Delivery was from the 10th of March 1940. I have 2 WW1 omega trench watches and a WW2 Omega. Dirty Dozen maybe?
Postwar, these were advertised as approved by the RCAF for pilot use. I think it was just a way of unloading the zillion watches that Omega had surplus once the shooting, and the buying, stopped at war's end. Its the same as the US Army's 30T2 based watches and, as non issued watches, not all that rare or expensive.Think of them as "army surplus". I collected any serial and case back number I could find at the internet in a spreadsheet (ca 45 British watches, and 10 Australian watches). Bottom line is the numbering of the cal 470 movement (which was especially produced for the W.W.W.s and the Australian equivalent) don't seem to follow any logic. First post by OP so looks more like site promotion to me. My Exchange is the official exchange (Post Exchange on-line) for the US Army & Air Force and is by the way, an Omega Authorized Dealer. Another detail is that their day-to-day regular prices are discounted, so the additional 20% mentioned by the OP could represent a 30-35% off from MSRP. 4. Watch with the Alloy case middle and a repainted dial and no swiss made on that dial. look at the Omega logo.. and then states, the case is stainless steel. all not correct. this Mil. model was delivered in 1942 and then no civilian model examples were produced.
